Hi, Arkansans (?)!  I'm in Northwest Arkansas and would love to meet other veg*ns in the area.  Let's find one another!

There are 3 more Vegans in Arkansas, me, my wife, and my son.  We live in Jacksonville (which isn't a great place for a vegan lifestyle but it's very close to Little Rock which does have a few places that are good to go).

Good to hear from you!  We're up in the Fayetteville area.  And I think the rainy spell just might be over.  <Whew>.

Things did get rough for a while, I know some people that had their house and car hit by the tornadoes.
I've never run into any other vegans in Arkansas.  Some vegetarians, but no vegans.

Is there room for a new vegan in Arkansas, or have we hit quota already?

My name is Jason, and I live in Sherwood, which is between Jacksonville and Little Rock.  I have been a vegan for all of three weeks, (and a vegetarian for two months before that!)

Jason,

We're not far from Sherwood at all (south Jacksonville).  Glad to know there are other vegans right in the area.  I can't think of any great restaurants for vegans in the Sherwood area, let me know if you know any.  Pizza for Less on Kiehl has always been good to us when we've asked for no-cheese pizzas.  And that Kroger on JFK does have a nice section in the corner that has stuff like Tofutti Cuties.

Jerry,

I've found a few really good places that you might like to take the family then:

Pei Wei
(WLR) has a good selection of vegan entrees, clearly marked (and you can substitute tofu & vegetables for the meat in many of their dishes, they actually charge less for the meal if you do).

Moe's Southwestern Grill
(NLR & WLR) has lots of vegetarian options (just request no cheese or sour cream for vegan) and any of their menu items can get marinated tofu instead of meat (their beans and rice are animal-free)

Lilly's DimSum ThenSum (WLR) also has a great vegetarian menu, and they are incredibly accommodating.  They're also locally-owned.

Star of India (WLR) has some great curries.  Vegetarian/vegan is not a problem for them.

I'm working on a list of vegan-friendly restaurants in our area.  When I get it compiled and listed, I'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks for the list Jason.  I've been to Moe's a lot but I haven't been to the others, I'll have to try them.  I can't wait to see the list you're compiling.  There is a place a lot like Moe's called Blue Coast Burrito on McCain.  Mt. Fuji in Little Rock has veggie rolls that are good (they even have aspargus rolls).  And Saigon Cuisine on Cantrell will substitute tofu for the meat in a lot of their dishes (but don't try their veggie rolls, they have fish eggs on them)  I haven't found a whole lot in the Sherwood/Jacksonville area though.

Hey all,
At Izzy's in West Little Rock, you can now ask for a vegan menu.  See it online at izzyslittlerock.com.  It's not a vegan restaurant, but then there aren't any of those in central arkansas that I know of.  They were always very vegetarian friendly there.  Their veggie tamales are really good.
There is also supposed to be a place opening after the first of the year called the Root (right by the weekend theatre close to Vinos).  From what I hear, there will be a lot of vegan options (not all but a lot).  They're supposed to sell only food that comes from so many miles away (environmentally friendly because it saves on the gas it takes to ship food in).  Anyone else with any news in Arkansas?
