This is an exerpt from the Farm Sanctuary email I received this morning:

".......And, stay tuned…a little birdie told us you should watch Ellen on Friday, May 23. Bestselling author Rory Freedman, one of our special guests at the Gala, will be on the show, and on May 28, Kathy Freston will appear on Ellen."

http://ellen.warnerbros.com/  is Ellen's website.  Ellen is a huge animal advocate.  I don't know if she is vegan.

Trudy, it is the year of the vegan for sure! I heard (don't know if it's true or not) Ellen was inspired to go vegan after the Rory Freedman interview. Guess we'll just have to tune in to see for ourselves. Very, very exciting! ~ Chris

I heard straight from Rory that Ellen and her partner Portia are now vegan and plan to "out" themselves on a future show. Incredible!

Okay, I'm embarrassed to say it, but we all love each other here, so I'll go ahead. I just did a little "Year of the Vegan" dance around the living room. It was part hustle, part cabbage patch, and part electric slide, but it was all good! This is amazing! I think I've had about 6 heart attacks this week. Thank goodness I'm vegan so my heart can handle all these attacks. Okay, I'm off for another minute of dancing while singing "It's the year of the vegan! It's the year of the vegan! It's the year of the vegan!" Go ahead and imagine that for a sec, I know you wanna. ~ Chris

Chris....I see your YOTV dance and raise you 3 cartwheels and a backwards flip.
Yes, the image is awesome, no?  Mindboggling?

As much as I love Oprah, I love, love, love Ellen.  To tell you the truth, I believe Colleen would stand a better chance getting on the Ellen show....and the time frame of her already scheduled vegan-related guests would buy more time to convince the producers for a vegan cooking show.  Besides...if we know already that Ellen and Portia have gone vegan,  it's a given that she will be interested.  With Oprah, the jury is still out.

I say it won't hurt to wite Ellen as well.

Trudy....dizzy and disoriented.

Um......Colleen will not be dancing!

Should I be concerned that you're all setting me up for some kind of scary talent show or something? I better pay close attention to what you're all planning!

Folks, it's important to remember Colleen does not have a TV. She doesn't get the dancing on Ellen references. Umm, Colleen, don't dis the dance, man! It is an essential part of the show.

I will dance. Trudy will dance. My mom will dance! Jennifer, will you dance?

My mom absolutely adores Ellen. A couple years ago when she was in the hospital for a while, I had to make sure I was there every day at 4 to watch Ellen with her. I absolutely could not miss the dance . I told my mom today about Ellen going vegan and I told her she might get to help us get Colleen on Ellen by doing one of her most favorite things; stuffing envelopes. She responded that Monday is a holiday, she doesn't have to work, so she's available for serious envelope stuffing. I had to laugh at her earnestness.

Anyway, if any more vegans end up on Oprah or Ellen, I think we better all get up and dance! ~ Chris

Maybe we should try to get Rush Limbaugh to go vegan. Could we get Colleen on his show?

Colleen, even if you don't dance, rest assured you'll have many of us eager to be your back-up dancers!

I'll have all of you know that last year when my mom and sister were visiting us in LA, we went to a taping of the Ellen show. Before the show starts they have an audience dance contest and guess who won... that's right y'all!!! It was a blast!

Ellen has an area on her website where she shows pictures of and discusses her lunch. It may not be a carnivore's dream, but it is not generally a vegan fare. However, she has posted two lunches for May thus far and both are vegan! Plus I've noticed a decrease in meat-laden meals in previous posts. Maybe she IS coming over to the bright side!! from Colleen's inside info, seems like it's coming true!

Here's a link to where you can post a comment about Ellen's memorial day lunch. There's only one comment now and it's about American Idol. It's a good opportunity to get some comments about Colleen and Compassionate Cooks up where Ellen and her fans are bound to see it.

Here's what Ellen had to say about today's lunch.

Quote:
I'm having a light lunch today to save room for the Memorial Day Barbecue I'm going to later. Today I am having a brown rice with tofu scramble and some spinach and roasted yams. There are many kinds of rice. Brown rice, white rice, long grain rice, short grain rice, jasmine rice, sticky rice, puffed rice, Rice Krispies and Rice-a-Roni (the San Francisco treat, by the way). Rice is mostly grown in flooded paddies. I think Rice Krispies are grown in the desert... and Rice-a-Roni is grown in cable cars. I'm not sure where they grow tofu, but it's very moist so I'm going to say probably in tofu bogs. I know they grow spinach in fields and I think they grow yams in the ground. I've never seen a yam while walking around, so they must grow out of sight. Yams are are starchy tubers by the way. Coincidentally, I had some starchy tubers removed recently. Just in time for summer. Now I'm not embarrassed to go out in a bathing suit.

Enjoy your Memorial Day lunch.
Ellen

Thanks for your help folks. We really could get Colleen on Oprah or Ellen! This is truly phenomenal! ~ Chris

I just found the comment section for the Skinny B*tch segment. There are only 29 comments. Some of them are negative about the book and authors, some are about John McCain. Only a few are about vegetarianism/veganism. The section could really use some positive, encouraging, joyful vegan testimonies. It's the perfect place to refer people to the podcast, Colleen's site for more writings, info, and recipes. and the message boards for community and questions. Feel free to mention that Colleen is more than a chef and more than an author. We really want both Oprah and Ellen to understand that Colleen is more akin to a guide than anything else. The reason she'd make such a good guest is that she's so good at disseminating really important information in a friendly way, while at the same time, inspiring folks with the ease of preparing nutritious, delicious, cruelty-free foods.

Please feel free to post any comments you leave for Ellen here to inspire others in the CC community.

(Please forgive the cross-post, I thought it was worth it!)

Hi folks, just a quick note from Operation Oprah HQ (now also serving as Operation Ellen HQ.)

I really want to encourage all of you to take your message board magic over to Oprah and Ellen's websites and message boards. Ellen is hosting Kathy Freston on today's show (she's the woman who got Oprah on the vegan cleanse.) Oprah is in reruns and is airing the puppy mills show today. Both shows are fantastic invitations to comment for the animals.

We've had confirmation that Ellen is indeed vegan now. We really need to use this time, and the space both ladies have provided on their websites, to talk veganism up.

Whether we get Colleen on one of these shows or not, we still have this incredible, unprecedented opportunity to talk about veganism on their forums. Their forums get a lot more viewers and participants than this one does, so let's not let this opportunity pass us by, kay?

I so appreciate all of you that have emailed to let me know you wrote to Oprah. Let's keep up the momentum and really spread our message throughout their public forums so even more people can be exposed to the joy that is joyful veganism. If you want to tell your story, great! If you want to tell a story about how Compassionate Cooks, or the Vegetarian Food For Thought Podcast, or Colleen have helped you, even better! But whatever you do, please don't let this opportunity slip away without speaking your truth to an audience that might not ever get to hear voices like yours.

Thanks again (and the animals told me to say thanks for them too ),
Chris

The Ellen board is rather diffuse and the comments often unfocused, but I have noticed that there are several ranchers posting their annoyance with Ellen's compassionate living guests.  I don't reply to them, but I'm determined not to let them sit at the top of the comment heap!
