Reply with quote | #1 | I usually listen to episodes while at work but as I listened to Colleen read the Robinson Jeffers poem for his dog, I just stopped working and looked at the picture of my dog, Luckie, who died last September and cried.
Thank you for doing this episode. It's comforting to have the pain and importance of the deaths of our companion animals recognized. __________________ Win a cupcake cookbook at Mutual Menu (http://mutualmenu.blogspot.com) |

Reply with quote | #2 | i teared up listening to it too, joselle.
my cat, maude, passed away two summers ago. i'd had her for sixteen years so it was especially hard. i adopted my cat, mabel, from the SPCA the very next day because i was so lonesome without maude. mabel has been such a wonderful companion and i just love her to bits. it really is amazing how close our relationships with animals can be. and how much more consistent and loving than many of our relationships with humans. :-)
luckie was lucky indeed. to have a "mom" like you!

Reply with quote | #3 | Thank you for the timing on this podcast as our little Velcro (a cat) passed away about 2 weeks before your post. She was a the most loving cat I've ever been around and loved to spend hours each day on her daddy's (Jon) chest. I guess that makes her a chest cat not a lap cat???. If you recently lost a pet, it is ok to greive. Most pets spend more time with us that humans. It isn't "like" losing a family member, it IS losing a family member. I'm putting all my sadness for Velcro into energy for animals. If you are reading this podcast, uou have 2 choices. Do nothing or do something. I choose the later. Just do what you can.
Thanks Colleen!

Reply with quote | #4 | I just bought the lovely little book by O' Neill that was in the podcast: The Last Will and testament of an extremely distinguished dog. My, how beautiful. I highly recommend it, it can be read to children, in schools, just a wonderful little poem/book. |
