Someone on another board that I frequent is asking for help for protein sources for her 1 year old that won't eat meat.  She is worried- I am thinking "Go kid go!!"  Anyway lots of posts to eat more cheese, drink more milk, and try tofu.  And of course, one poster stated about how dangerous soy is- changes hormonal levels in menopausal women so it will affect children too.  Her son is just going through a normal developmental stage with eating but I would like to post something saying that not eating meat is ok- there are a lot of very healthy vegan babies/children out there.  She does not seem to realize that otherwise she wouldn't have posted her concerns.  But I can't let this opportunity pass.

Please help with resources and websites and even any of Colleen's podcasts that you  think would help me with a joyful, comforting response.

Would Disease Proof Your Child be a good rec??

Thanks soooo much for all your help

I don't know anything about feeding kids and what's really right and wrong but why don't you send the woman a message with a link to this forum? That might help and then if you get some ideas for what her kid can eat, you can post those on the board.

Here is a link that has some kid centered info  http://www.vegfamily.com/
There is a section on babies and toddlers and another on children...some pretty good stuff

Of course Colleen's first podcast was "The Protein Myth" and a lot of her earlier stuff would probably apply to this womans questions.

The ultimate answer on dairy protein would be found in "The China Study"

Interesting that she is having this problem as I read not long ago (somewhere.... I really should start writing this stuff down) that it is a common instinct for children to not like the texture of meat.....almost like eating it is unnatural somehow...hmmmm

Thanks for your help!!  I haven't a minute yet to start composing my response- will get to it tomorrow but i really appreciate the help before hand.

i so agree with both texture thoughts- that kiddos don't like it and well, uumm its not so natural...
