Reply with quote | #1 | OK, I have no idea which forum to post in, but this is about cat health.
My (tuxedo) cat Ella was diagnosed with untreatable liver cancer this afternoon. We've been treating her kidney failure for almost a year. In addition to saline injections, she's on a special diet which seems to be higher in fat and lower in protein.
I'm under no illusions that our 15-year old girl has a lot of time, but my question is, liver cancer is exactly the cancer Dr. Campbell of The China Study found could be turned off in mice and rats with a 5% animal protein diet as opposed to 20% (p. 56).
I never considered a vegan diet for her because it didn't seem to be healthy for cats. But what have we got to lose at this point? The vet gave her 3-12 months and said it was a toss-up whether it would be the kidneys or the liver that take her.
I plan to work with our vet, especially since the kidney diet is somewhat complicated, but I doubt she has any info on what would be the best food for her. I even have time to cook for her if necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions or resources?
