Reply with quote | #1 | Hello, all. My mom's side of the family has a tradition of getting together in Chicago on Thanksgiving weekend. In this family I have three young cousins who have among them allergies for: dairy, eggs (no challenges for me here), wheat, soy, peanuts, and possibly oats.
At this point I'm unsure how much responsibility I will have in cooking. The Cold Comfort Farm menu (except for the tempeh dish) looks great. HOWEVER, I suspect that there is a tree nut issue as well, which would be a problem for the Purple Potatoes with Cashew Cream.
There's also kid-friendliness to consider. The eldest is 10 and the youngest is a baby. A simpler starchy dish like the sweet potato fries might fit the bill instead.
Any advice? |

Reply with quote | #2 | I agree--kids (and adults) often prefer what they're familiar with. You could even just make traditional mashed potatoes with Earth Balance's new soy-free margarine (if you can find it--there's that new Whole Foods in Chicago that probably has it). Or the sweet potato fries (I love those) or both--I guess most people do sweet and white potatoes in some form or another for Thanksgiving.
Enjoy the holiday, whatever you end up making! |
